“You’ll never get away with this, Arms,” Forged shouted over the cacophony of the rushing river a hundred feet below.
“Won’t I?” asked Akimbo. He laughed menacingly, and stomped his iron-clad boots along the bridge railing ever nearer to Forged’s and Flywheel’s fingers.
“No,” said Flywheel, “never!”
“I think that was a rhetorical question, kid,” Forged told Flywheel, taking his attention off their adversary. Akimbo stomped even closer, his boot crashing down mere millimeters from Forged’s gloved left hand. Forged took no notice.
“What does rhetorical mean?” Flywheel asked.
“Well, Flywheel, it-”
Before he could finish, Akimbo brought his foot down again, directly on top of Forged’s hand. Or, what he thought was Forged’s hand.
Instead, it was an empty glove-Forged’s real left mitt was tucked safely away in his shirtsleeve. And the glove was not a glove, but rather a ruse stitched together from banana peels and colored brown with shoe polish. True to form, the banana peels caused Akimbo to slip violently in a comical backflip, sending him over the railing.
Half an instant later, Forged and Flywheel looked down to see Arms Akimbo clutching tightly onto their bootlaces.
